The whole idea behind tinting your home window shields is to have a nice shade in summer season. It also helps in ensuring privacy. The best thing about window tinting is that to enjoy the benefits, you only need to spend a small fortune. One can do it easily all by oneself with the help of only a little cost and some labour. Installing a window tint is a one-time expense and can save you a lot of money on the maintenance of a normal window.
In order to get a basic tint job done using a conventional window tint or film, the expectations of expenditure ranges from $100 – $550 and this depends on what window one is using. As already mentioned, a window tint provides shade by blocking 90% of harmful UV-B and UV-A rays. Not only that, it prevents the upholstery and dash inside the home from fading. Besides reducing the glare of the sun, tints hold the tattered glass in position and provide protection to it.
The five efficient methods used in window tinting are:
#1. The method for a dyed window film:
In this case, a layer of dye is placed between the protective coating of polyester at the top and the layer of adhesive. The layer of adhesive then sticks to the glass of the window and the coating of the polyester prevents scratches and nicks. Dyed window film helps in blocking at least 50% of the sunlight. Besides protection from glaring of the sun, the shady and non-reflective effect that it provides is found aesthetic and this adds to the benefits. Also, it is pocket-friendly.
#2. The method for a metalized window film:
In this type of window tinting, there are several layers that are applied. Adhesive layer is the base layer and it unites with the film of the window, followed by another layer of film which is used to treat the blocking for UV radiations. Again, this layer is united with a layer of metal which helps in the reflection of heat and leads to the darkening of the window. Finally, a final coating of protective film is used at the top that provides protection against scratches. Metalized filming, however, can only block 40% of the light. The advantage lies in its heat reflecting capacity and extreme durability. This type of tinting is advisable for people living in the warmer regions of the World.
#3. The method for a hybrid tinting film:
This type of window tinting film is designed in such a way that it offers the benefits of both metalized and dyed film. The layers are of adhesive, dye, metal and finally the protective polyester top coating all laminated together by adhesive. It blocks 50% of the sunlight. The special advantage of this type of coating is that since very less metal is present, the filming doesn’t interfere with the signals of radios and cellphones. Also, it is cost effective.
#4. The method of a carbon filming:
This generally looks similar to a dyed window film and thus requires only a layer of adhesive and protective polyester coating between which the dye is placed. However, it lasts longer than dyed window tinting films and since it contains no metal layer, therefore, it works without interfering with radio and cellphone signals.
#5. The method of a crystalline filming:
It is a multi-layered film but is thinner than an ordinary paper. It is the best type of window film but is also the most expensive one. In spite of its clarity, it can block 97% of infrared rays, 90% of light and 60% of heat. This is by far the most modern and efficient method of window tinting.
Irrespective of the type of film chosen it should be installed professionally in order to ensure durability and appearance. The prices vary depending on the type of film and the brand of the film yielding various results. To prevent the trapping of air bubbles one needs the help of a razor knife and a squeegee to apply the film.
